Leadership or Management? Which is more important for us?

Many people among us make the common mistake of thinking both management and leadership skills to be interchangeable, as also the people who exercise them. But are they really the same? or can they be differentiated? Which should we be, or should we bring the combination of these two different skill sets?

Our Definition for the two:

Management is the process of attaining organizational goals in an effective and efficient manner through planning, organizing, controlling, and directing organizational resources.

Leadership is the process of exercizing the influence between a leader and his/her followers that is necessary to attain group, organizational, and social goals.

What do you feel? are they really the same, or is one skill more desirable than the other? Have a say!
